Blueharts extend unbeaten runs in another strong weekend

It was another impressive weekend for Blueharts Hockey Club, with unbeaten streaks extended, confident wins, and resilient performances across all sides.

Blueharts Men's 1s extended their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 3–2 away win against Ipswich 1s. The first half was closely contested, with goals from Pete Cornell and Will Lawler cancelled out by two from the hosts. After the break, Blueharts took control, and Ben Bayley’s composed finish proved decisive. Despite a nervy closing spell and missed chances at both ends, the defensive unit held firm to secure another valuable three points.

The Ladies’ 1s battled to a thrilling 2–2 draw at home against a strong Braintree 1s side in a top-of-the-table clash. After conceding early from a penalty corner, Blueharts dominated possession but couldn’t convert before half time. They drew level through Emily Fair’s smart finish from a penalty corner, and continued to press forward. Braintree briefly regained the lead with three minutes to play, but Blueharts showed fantastic resilience — and with virtually the final touch of the match, Liv Byford smashed home from a well-worked penalty corner to seal a dramatic point and spark huge home celebrations.

Ladies 2’s return back to their winning ways after taking on Harpenden 1’s, securing a 2-0 home win. Goals from Kamila Wolowicz, a fab passage of play, down the right from Emily Frenay then an amazing cross from Kate Sherwood, slotted into the back of the net by Kam from back post. Second goal from Ella Lock, a fantastic pass from a long corner by Carly Madders to Charlotte Brakenbury on the left. Charlotte smashed it into the circle and was latched onto by a fantastic deflection by Ella. Player of the match went to Charlotte Brakenbury.

The Men’s 4s slipped to a 4–2 home defeat against Bishop’s Stortford 3s after a slow start saw them fall 3–0 behind early on. Raymond Lin rounded the keeper to score just before half time, and Joel Davey deflected home from a short corner soon after the restart to make it 3–2. Blueharts pushed hard for an equaliser, forcing several good saves from the opposition keeper, but a late goal sealed the result for Stortford.

The Ladies’ 4s continued their excellent start to the season with a strong 2–0 away win against Shefford & Sandy 2s. Blueharts dominated the first half through quick passing and strong link-up play from Daisy Bradford, Isobel Chapman, Anna Claypole, Tamzin Wright, and Joanna Floor. After several early chances went begging, Floor showed great determination to open the scoring, before Wright doubled the lead with a superb strike. The hosts’ keeper produced several fine saves in the second half to deny further goals, but Blueharts remained in control throughout — extending their unbeaten record with another impressive team performance.

The Men’s 5s produced another confident display in a 3–0 home win over Shefford & Sandy 2s. Fast, attacking hockey saw Blueharts dominate the first half, with goals from Phil Britton, Oscar Gallimore, and Pete Mitchell giving them full control. Despite sustained pressure and a missed flick in the second half, they comfortably saw out the win and collected another well-earned three points.

The Ladies’ 5s were in sparkling form, producing a superb 7–0 home win over Stevenage 4s. Blueharts controlled the match from start to finish, with goals from Niamh Hartley-Matthews and Danielle Flood giving them a confident first-half lead. In the second half, the team’s fluid attacking play overwhelmed the visitors, as Hartley-Matthews and Emilia Kelly both netted hat-tricks to complete a dominant performance.

Blueharts Men’s 8s maintained their winning run with a 3–1 away victory over Bishop’s Stortford 6s. Zac Thomas opened the scoring after just two minutes with a trademark reverse-stick strike, and while the hosts equalised before half time, Tom Payne restored the lead from a penalty corner. Thomas then added his second to secure the result. Although not their most fluent display, the team’s quality shone through — making it six straight wins and keeping them top of the division.

Another weekend full of goals, grit, and great results — the season momentum continues to build across the club.
